Afro Future Sound-Mirel Wagner - No Death

Born in Ethiopia and raised in Finland, 23-year-old Mirel Wagner is an unshakeable talent. Her self-titled debut album was released in Europe last year and arrives in the US on March 27. The nine intense and intimate acoustic songs on the album were recorded alone by Mirel in just two days and are full of despair, desolation and darkness.

More than anything else, Mirel is heavy and heart breaking – and highly recommendable. This is music for the dark hours. Watch the terrific video for the first single, “No Death”

On Blackness Re-imagined - Illinois Humanities Council

June 8th happenings

This is a piece I have been working on for the past two days

So living half halfheartedly is not for me

its not for me,but it is petrifying to live

any other way- I can not choose courage boldly-

un-regrettably, un-apologetically.

It is scary  to shine so brightly in fear of

going dim

I am an oil lamps among lavender and cobalt

seas

I would love to shine brightly hot

white-flash of golden oranges

The juxtaposition would be brilliant

how long

how long will I reamain at sea

So i burn as softly and dimly as  i can in

hopes of longevity

what risk can  I take now

what hope here do i have among the sea

but to realize, there was never any land

I should burn brightly

i should burn brightly

fiercely

swimmingly along this sea

for what is it to   drift at seas for an

eternity as a dim dim light

Interviewing, Mike Webb- Vocalo workshop

Okay so I started this tumblr awhile back and never used it until i joined Vocalo radio workshop . it’s been a slow process for me to actually get my interviews schedule and rollin but yesterday one interview was knocked out, a good friend-Mike Webb. i learned somethings…not facts (i’ve known him long enough to know a great deal of facts), but feelings i didn’t know about him. i hadn’t realized how rusty my oral history interview skills had gotten. So i am happy to work on them. Two more today plus Imma grab some b-roll just walking around the neighborhood.

So I am have been playing in Google Earth and Maps and found this Image of my sister sitting on the porch,in the summer of 2007. It brings back so many memories. I know it is a Sunday because by my sisters dress and knowing every Sunday Jahari and Lakenya sat on the porch next door early before they had to go off to church. it must be the  summer of 2007 because soon after lakenya and her family moved away  we got a fence that fall and couldn’t salt the new sidewalk concrete.
